Personal Statement
Anyone who knows me will tell you I love the game of basketball. The game is very unforgiving but it will reward you if put in the work and time. The lessons I have learned from the game, I try to teach young men and woman. I am passionately improving my craft to where I can be a head coach in the future.

My name is James Van Hook. I am the Athletic Director and Head Boys Basketball Coach at Northland Christian School, located in Houston, Texas. The purpose of this letter is to advise that you hire Russell Bundage for employment as quickly as possible.
Russell was a member of my basketball coaching staff for the 2016-2017 season, and was instrumental in helping take our program to the state finals for the first time in 33 years. I am confident that we would not have reached such great heights without Coach Bundage.
Coach Bundage is a relentless and tireless worker that also manages to create a similar work ethic in those around him. He and I spent many late nights going over film so that we could effectively plan practice and focus on getting our team and players to improve as quickly as possible. On the nights that we did not stay late, he would watch film when he got home and have suggestions for improvement the following practice.
Coach Bundage’s goal as my assistant coach was never to push his own agenda, schemes, or culture, but to better the philosophies and culture already in place. Every offense and defense I wanted to run, he made better. Every aspect of the culture of my program was also made better by his knowledge, skills in working with athletes, ability to have honest conversations with kids and coaches, and relentless attention to detail.
If Russell receives an opportunity to coach at the collegiate level, I will not be able to effectively replace the overwhelming impact and mark he left on my basketball program. I would hire him again in an instant, and I would send my children to play for him.
